How to Build Window Blinds
How to Build Window Blinds?
Window blinds not only keep out light, but they also play an important role in regulating the temperature of the room where they are installed. Moreover, they keep the privacy of your home intact. There are several types of window blinds available in the market. However, a majority of them are quite expensive, and the remaining low-priced blinds are of poor quality. Yet another feasible option is customized window blinds. They are of excellent quality, and they usually come at a reasonable price. The good thing about these blinds is that they can also be built at home. Let’s learn how to make customized window blinds.
- Firstly, collect all the things that you would need to build a blind. They include a measuring tape, blind material, cord, cutting tools, mounting brackets, electric drill, screwdriver and screws.
- Use the metal measuring tape to carefully measure the length and width of the window where the blinds have to be installed. Do not measure the window frame because the blinds are placed in the window wells. For this reason, measure the window from below the frame. Round off all your measurements to 1/8 of an inch so as to make sure that the hardware fits properly over the bind.
- Depending upon your personal preferences, you can select anyone of the following blind materials viz. fabric, wood, plastic or aluminum. If you are intending to use wood for the blind, then sanding, painting or staining of slats should be done before the installation of the blind.
- Cut the blind material into slats, and test the first slat to ensure that the measurement is correct, and it fits properly on the window. Thereafter, cut a number of slats. Take the cord and measure it from the first cord. Tie a knot in the cord, and start adding the slats. Continue doing this until the first slat in firmly in place. Once, the blind fits properly into the window, cut the remaining cord. With this your window blind is ready. Now, it has to be installed.
- For the installation of the blind, fix the mounting brackets on the window frame. First, mark the points where screws have to be inserted. Use the drill to make holes, after that install the brackets. If your blind is quite wide, then a bracket will also be required in the middle of the window frame. Insert the headrail into the brackets and close its door to ensure that the headrail gets locked in a proper position.
- Run the cord through the headrail and check the blind whether it is functioning properly or not. Make necessary adjustment in the blind to ensure smooth operation.
