How to Build a Patio

A patio not only beautifies your garden but also accentuates the beauty of your home. It provides for a great place to sit with your guests and spend an afternoon leisurely as you watch the picturesque scenery on the outside. A patio is ideal to build if the ground is leveled for stone, cement or such kind of pavers. It may take 2 days to build a simple brick patio. If you are confused about whether to build a deck or a patio, remember that the former is ideal if the yard near your home is sloped or has a poor drainage system. A patio needs a leveled ground for stone, cement or such type of pavers. The patio also reflects on the site and the sense of style that you have in mind for building it. Here is information on how you can build a patio from bricks.

Steps On How To Build A Patio

  • Build a patio with materials that complement the ones that you use in the house. This approach will make the patio an extension of your house.
  • Take the measurement of the area that you want as your patio. It is easier to make rectangular shaped patio rather the ones with curved designs. To make the correct rectangle, make sure that two sides are of equal length.
  • Start digging your area to a depth of 8 inches and level out. Use a tamp to check if the base of the floor is level and even. If the base of the floor is not level, it is not good enough to build a patio, because you'd be then building it on sloppy ground.
  • Check by laying a pattern of bricks to see if you are on the right track. Remove the bricks that you have done a test run with and pour stone gravel into the ditch. Check again with a tamp and find out if the ground is level once again.
  • Use paving bricks for the patio measuring four inches by eight inches. Once this is done, start laying the bricks in a selected pattern.
  • Once you have laid down the bricks, apply a layer of sand and seep it into the cracks. Now step back and see if you have filled in all the cracks.
  • Remember that you when you lay the bricks, you should not kneel either on the sand or the bricks. Rest instead on the plywood on the bricks. You should make it a point not to disturb the brick formation or make the sand uneven.
