How to Build a Ramp
How to Build a Ramp?
According to law, every public building should be friendly to people with disabilities. For this reason, ramp is an essential feature of several buildings like hospitals, multiplexes, supermarkets, office, and so forth. In different places, you can find different types of ramp such as wooden ramp, metal ramp, skateboard ramp and concrete ramp. In addition to public buildings, ramps can also be built at the main entrance of your home or in front of your shed. Let learn how to build a wooden ramp.
To build a ramp in front of your shed, you require measuring tape, wood pencil, plywood, lumber, wrenches, circular saw, hammer, screw driver, nails, bolts, drill and drill bits. Start the process by drilling 3 holes approximately 1-inch below the door of the shed. The holes should be equidistant and smaller than the diameter of the bolt.
Take 2x4 treated lumber, and cut a piece that is as long as the width of the door of the shed. Line up the lumber piece against the lip of the shed and mark the position of the 3 holes on the lumber. Drill holes and fasten the lumber and lip together with the help of bolts. Use wrenches to ensure that the bolts are tight.
Take 4x4 multi-treated lumber and place one end at the lip of the shed and allow the other end to touch the ground. With the help of the pencil make a mark at the end that is on the ground and cut off the piece diagonally. Measure the 4x4 piece and cut another piece as long as the first piece. Join the notched end of 4x4 with the 2x4 lumber that is attached to the lip of the shed. Similarly attach the second 4x4 piece of lumber to the other side of 2x4 piece too. The other end should go into the ditch that you have dug.
Place the plywood over the two 4x4 pieces of lumber that are joined at the base of the shed. Mark the dimensions over the plywood and cut along the markings with the help of circular saw. Nail the piece of plywood along the length of 4x4 lumber pieces. To increase the traction on the ramp, you can tack asphalt shingles in horizontal rows across the plywood. Once your ramp is ready, don’t forget to seal the wood against mildew, mushroom, mold and dampness. All in all, this was the easiest and the most inexpensive method to build a ramp.
