How to Build a Work Bench
If you want to build a sturdy and basic work bench for your needs, you can do it following these steps. Building a workbench is not hard at all, if you have the necessary tools.
We will be building a workbench without legs, because this gives you more storage space and free space to clean. You can build it in your garage or work room, or any other place you will be using to build and fix things.
What you will need:
- A Large board 4x10' for the top surface
- 5 boards 2x4x10 for the bracing
- 4 metal brackets 13x19''
- 24, 5/16" x 3" Lag Bolts
- 16 Spikes and 10 penny nails
- 1 1/4" screws for wood
Steps to Build a Work Bench
- Take the metal brackets and attach them to the wall. Make sure that you place it on the right height. Take the brackets, place them on the studs and use the bolts to attach them.
- Take one of the supporting pieces and a scrap. Cut 6 pieces of 22,5'' for the supporting ones and lay one of them down flat and along the metal brackets. Attach them pieces to the brackets using the wood screws.
- Take three of the base support pieces and lay one of them on the edge of the wall, one in the center and the other along the front edge. Attach them to the short and then attach the remaining supports to both ends.
- Next you have to cut and put the top surface together. Take the remaining board, of 2x4 and cut it enough to be 110,5''. Once you cut it, attach it to the front edge of the supporting pieces.
- Take the ½ x 4' x 10' boards and cut it to be 110,5'' as well. Cut it in half, ripping it and create two pieces of 24''. Take the two pieces you created and stack the one over the other, nailing them to the support pieces. Make sure that they are nailed to every one of them.
- Then you need to attach a panel above the bench you created; this is useful because it can help you have your accessories and tools handy, hanging everything in front of you. This is the last step you need to make in order to create the bench; once it is done, you will have a solid and sturdy workbench to work on and create new things.
